Featuring the makeup and craft of Adafih Padmore, ‘The Variety Store’ consists of a series of creative headshots, each made using only items bought at its respective Charlotte Street retailer.
The three primary features of Charlotte Street, Port of Spain are the vending activity; the small groceries; and these so-called ‘variety stores’, where a wide range of inexpensive goods—especially household goods and beauty-items—can be found.
These items were bought, modified, and repurposed into the accessories worn by the subjects. Apart from the subjects’ faces, some makeup, and the Light, everything seen in each photograph came from the shops.
For non-commercial use, you are free to use or share these photographs if you kindly link and credit. The preferred wording is, ‘Photograph by Shaun Rambaran—http://method.moda’.
For commercial use however, please contact Shaun Rambaran directly to obtain written permission. We’ll work together to get you sorted fairly, and this would allow you to obtain the high-res copies of the photographs if they are needed.

In the interest of protecting the privacy of its users, this website uses an open source, analytic software known as Piwik.
This is due to concerns over the extent of Google’s activity monitoring. The scale of Google’s tracking across the Internet is unimaginably vast, so this is a very small gesture by comparison, but this website sees it as necessary in order to stay true to its principles.
