Calavera Neón

Made from cane sugar; icing; coloured foil; beads or feathers, a calavera is a stylised depiction of a human skull. Calaveras are made either for children or as offerings as part of the celebration of the Día de los Muertos—the Mexican ‘Day of the Dead’.

Illustrations; paintings; tattoos; makeup art; and photographs of Calaveras have become very popular outside of Mexico, where they are well-known as ‘sugar skulls’.
